She began gobbling up stories as soon as she could read, and especially enjoys delving into the darker places to see if she can draw out some light. Maybe that was what it meant to have a body and a soul, to be at one single point, and everywhere, all at once. Now, they realise they’ve been lured together by a person bent on revenge, a person who will stop at nothing to uncover what actually happened on that deadly night, one year ago. The publisher probably saw how other YA mysteries such as One of Us is Lying were selling well and thought they should jump in on this trend, but they could only get their hands on a Wattpad fanfiction.One of the other features of this book that is very typical of the genre is its narrative structure: the perspective changed in each chapter, alternating between the five protagonists. But although the story is full of plot twists, it doesn’t really give the twists time to have any impact.
It was cool to see how the murder mystery party evolved and who was behind it all for sure but I really could predict this one easily, and I’m not usually one for guessing the endings! I am a goddess in a land of pyramids and sand, and if I want, I can make all this blow away with the wind.
Given the type of novel that “This Lie Will Kill You” is, if the writing were its only issue it could pass with a 2.
